LIVING IN NATURE
Study on Active Aging Housing Prototype
Chai Wan
As the population in Hong Kong is aging , people aged 65 or over increased from 12% to 15% over the past year, this sector should be thought thoroughly. Yet the elder people exist as a cluster of different groups with different needs, preference and life styles, hence a homogeneous type of housing unit can not fulfill all of their requirements and needs.
In the design proposal, instead of adopting a conventional typical plan with different units , this project proposes an open plan system, each floor has only a single unit type, seniors with similar preference and needs are put together, which enhances the possibility of intra floor community formation.
Chai Wan has lost its open sea view ,which is blocked by industrial buildings. This project aims to strengthen the visual connection of our site to the bay, with an ambiance surrounded by sea and greenery, the natural side of Chai Wan, could be re-discovered.
In urban scale, an uplifted habitable footbridge is suggested to connect the green pocket spaces, forming an alternative pathway from the site to the MTR station and an adjacent swimming pool.
